WHY LUNCH BOX BUDDY?

I have seen first hand how many children rely on free school meals. Children go hungry in the school holidays because they are too embarrassed to say that they have empty cupboards at home. And it’s not just those relying on free school meals that struggle in the school holidays, many families are simply struggling with food and energy bills at the moment.

It is not right that children should be hungry. If I can do one thing, then making sure children in Devizes have access to lunches will be it.

BBC MAKE A DIFFERENCE YOUNG HERO AWARD

I’m incredibly proud to not only be nominated and shortlisted, but to have won the BBC Make a Difference Young Hero award in September 2026.

I didn’t start Lunch Box Buddy for any media attention, I only wanted to be able to give lunches out to children who needed them. I am honoured to have won the BBC Make a Difference award and I hope the media coverage it has attracted will help raise further awareness of the issues around holiday hunger for children.

Coverage of the project has included BBC News, BBC Radio, ITV News, LadBible, Archbishop of Banterbury and many more and I am grateful for the support as it has helped me reach my goal of providing more lunches for children.

MY NEXT EXCITING PROJECT

I’m really excited to be taking on a new role as a Youth Ambassador for Facing18, a free website and app created to help teenagers find trusted, straightforward answers to the questions that matter to them. Facing18 covers everything from mental health and relationships to school, exams and the everyday challenges of growing up.

My role will be to bring a young person’s perspective to the project, helping to guide the team on the subjects and issues that are genuinely important to teenagers. I’ll help make sure the information on Facing18 is relevant, easy to understand and reflects the questions young people actually want answered.

I became involved with Facing18 as it is a natural continuation to the work I have already done to help other young people. It felt like a great opportunity to build on that and hopefully make a positive difference to even more teenagers.
